Our people reflect the diverse range of ethnicity within contemporary Australian society. We firmly believe our studio culture is improved with each new appointment within our team, as each person brings their unique talent and perspective to our work. We intentionally blend age, experience and gender, with senior staff mentoring graduates to develop their knowledge and expand their professional development as an extension to tertiary studies. Our goal is to create an environment where each person is valued and encouraged to do their best work, every day.

Greg Paterson

DIRECTOR

"As our society evolves, we are now in a very exciting period of change that will see changes in buildings and life patterns leading to new methods of construction and built form outcomes. I look forward to this challenge."

Greg believes built form must engage the spirit, senses and emotions of those the building serves. For him, the art of good design lies in understanding humans and their needs so the design solution enables a better life. These mind wide open approaches led him to found Paterson Architects in 1986, where the testimony of his powerful beliefs is todays’ thriving practice.

Originally drawn to architecture by his fascination in transferring a written brief into a living, breathing 3-dimensional object, Greg’s unique perspective led to an appreciation of what it takes to create successful commercial, common-space and residential design. Now, after nearly 40 years, his ongoing interest, excitement and involvement within the industry is motivated by the successful resolution of projects resulting in an aesthetically pleasing built form. It’s why PA designed buildings don’t just aim to be aesthetically engaging, functional, and fit for purpose with a high level of resolution of construction detail, they must also seek to be a living sculpture that evokes emotions in their users.

Greg is energised by the collective enthusiasm of his team, immersing himself in every facet of the business and design process. His depth of experience (including being an integral member of the Design Team for the State Sports Centre), combined with his meticulous knowledge of the building industry and construction methodologies gives clients confidence knowing all deliverables and design expectations will be met.

A member of Australian Institute of Architects, Learning Environments Australasia and the Property Council. Greg is a well-respected and long-standing voice in the industry who continues to focus on excellence in design. Yet, the joy he derives from his work still stems from creating design solutions that energise those who use them, as well as the sense of pride they provide his Clients.
