A place of worship, learning and wellbeing, the Sikh Community Centre was designed to support a growing community in Perth’s southern corridor. More than a faithbased facility, it provides space for gathering, reflection, learning and shared meals embodying Sikh values of inclusion, generosity, and service to others.

More than a place of worship, the project is envisioned as a living expression of Sikh philosophy embodying the values of service, humility, equality, and connection. The design balances spiritual and communal functions, offering a tranquil and inclusive space for reflection, learning, and shared experience.

Set on a 19-hectare rural site, the Centre includes a Meditation Hall, community kitchen and lunch hall, caretaker’s dwelling, and supporting amenities. It has been designed to cater for over 300 people, providing free meals to all and reinforcing a strong sense of identity and belonging.

Working closely with the Shire of Serpentine–Jarrahdale, the design carefully balances community needs with planning expectations preserving the rural character of Oldbury while delivering essential infrastructure and high-quality communal space.

Environmental strategies address bushfire protection, stormwater management, and on-site power generation, with the Centre targeting over 70% reduction in operational energy compared to typical regional facilities. This project demonstrates how architecture can enable cultural continuity, support social connection, and contribute to sustainable, inclusive place-making— offering a valuable reference for other community-driven developments across Western Australia.
