Education
CONSTRUCTION VALUE $1.7M | DURATION 2017 - 2020
KEY PERSONNEL Chris Donovan
The project brief required a new Early Learning Centre (ELC) to be designed and constructed for Ballajura Primary School (BPS), including the installation of two new transportable classrooms in addition to the insitu constructed facilities. The masterplanning for the placement of the building was coordinated between the school, Paterson Architects (PA), Department of Finance (DoF), the BMW Transportable Team (BMWTrans), and the Department of Education (DoE).
The brief was to design an Early Learning Centre on the northern corner of the existing site, based on a skillion roof template design used by DoE elsewhere and DoF’s Primary School Brief. The template allowed two kindergarten classrooms and two pre-primary classrooms to be constructed independently, with green open space for activity, outdoor learning and play to be located between the built forms.
The scope of works also included realignment and resurfacing of the existing carpark closest to the Kindy classrooms. This provided better movement of traffic and safer conditions for children being dropped off and picked up during peak times.
Initially commissioned in late 2017, PA delivered documentation for tender in July of the following year, with a builder commencing works October 2018. The project was delivered in July 2019.
