Newman Town Centre
The development brief addressed the shortage of commercial space in the centre of Newman on an 11,000m2 area. The proposals scheme was to utilise the space to develop the existing community, with the intention to produce a quality development that contributes positively to the town centre and respond positively to the challenges of the site, seen as a gateway to the town.
The design intent for this project was not necessarily to maximise commercial return but to provide buildings that are highly functional and fit-for-purpose, produce a environmentally sensitive and responsible development, with low maintenance and operating costs, contribute positively to the redevelopment of the town centre, provide the community with a long-term income generating asset.
The design proposal encompassed short stay apartments, retail and office spaces, all designed to make the most of the area available and to harness the climatic conditions of a North West location. With a site located in a hot, arid climate, integrated into the design were elements that minimise sun penetration into the complex at each building level.
