CERI Foundation Offices
The Centre for Entrepreneurial Research and Innovation (CERI) provides office facilities to start-up companies to generate creative new business ideas. The energy and dynamism of these start-ups require a modern workplace.
Additionally, offices for the client, Bass Group, were required.
The 1000m² CERI and Bass Group fitout took up Level 1 of an existing 3000m² three-storey building. Paterson Architects was also responsible for the design and documentation of the refurbishment of the Ground and Level 2, including all base building services.
The CERI Start-up facility is an ‘open shell’ fitout with minimal ceilings and extensive open plan areas. Users can change furniture configurations and a range of furniture is available including high communal tables, low lounges and standard-height tables. The communal open spaces generate a ‘campus’ environment, including hard and wireless connections to power, data and AV resources.
The challenge was to respond to a specific brief with undefined final tenant needs. For instance, start-up companies could come from disparate industries and have varying needs. Paterson’s response was to provide an intuitive space where open plan spaces could be used in an ABW modality.
