A comprehensive upgrade of a 3,000m² commercial building, including a full-floor Client fitout, the refurbishment of 22 Stirling Highway presented the opportunity to breathe new life into a 1970s commercial building.

The existing building was 3 storeys in an area now zoned for only 2; refurbishment of the building was the only way of retaining this existing height and providing the Client with a better return on their expenditure. Extensive works were required to bring the building up to modern commercial standards; a light well was cut through the existing stairwell to visually connect different levels, internal light levels were increased by replacing the front façade with full height glazing and all bathrooms and services were upgraded, including the addition of solar cells to achieve Green Star Rating.

The prominent position of the building on Stirling Highway awarded the opportunity to make a significant architectural gesture. To bring the building identity, sun shading and additional floorspace, two ‘pods’ were constructed to cantilever towards the road, connected by a waved timber screen.

The project was delivered as part of a successful D&C partnership with Northerly Group.
