“Well resolved detailing is key. Design resolution that appears clean, simple and thoughtful is paramount.”

With a strong focus on environmentally sustainable development and energy management, Chris’ most significant professional rewards lie in projects that actively change people’s lives. He believes the key to good architecture is well resolved detailing, with design resolution appearing simple, thoughtful and clean. His body of work reflects this, as he produces building and design outcomes that clients are proud to call their own.

Chris specialises in taking residential, common-space and commercial projects from design through to completion and up to Final Certificate, regularly taking on the role of Project Director. His passions lie in creating well thought out educational spaces, designing environments that are a joy to walk into. Working with talented teams of consulting engineers and builders, Chris loves to resolve technically difficult construction challenges, always looking for the most effective solution.

A valued member of Paterson Architects, Chris joined the team in 2000 with a Bachelor of Architecture (Honours) from UWA. His thoughtful and rigorous approach to all his projects has seen his capacity highly recognised within the practice. Chris is a member of the Australian Institute of Architects and Learning Environments Australasia.

Education

Salvado Catholic College

Paterson Architects was engaged by Salvado Catholic College (SCC) and Catholic Education WA Ltd (CEWA) to assist with the ongoing development of a masterplan for the SCC site; a task commencing in 2013 with the development of the proposed college on a greenfield site incorporating the initial stage of primary school facilities and teaching spaces for Kindergarten to Year 2.

The design of the new Year 7 teaching block was conceptualised around a ‘learning courtyard’ which facilitates learning beyond the classroom. In order to create a sustainable and long-standing school building the spaces needed to be flexible and open-ended, to respond to the changing needs of the learning environment.

As the school cohort and arts programme grew, St Munchin’s required a new Multi-Purpose Hall. PA developed a floor plan to provide the required hall, music and performance space, stage and canteen.

Mixed Use

Located opposite Coal Dam Park and within walking distance of the Midland train station, town centre and the historic Midland Workshops, our brief was to design a mixed use/residential complex.

Recreation / Community

The City of Karratha sought to establish a new benchmark in innovative architectural design. The building was to complement the landscape through the selection of materials and colours suitable for the region and sustainable design, all within a disciplined financial framework.

The Canning River Eco-Education Centre developed from a State Government initiative to foster environmental awareness within the Canning River Regional Park, demonstrating a sustainable environmental path for the future.

Spring Lake Village

Springfield (Qld)

Our Client’s vision was to create a series of commercial and retail tenancy spaces on land adjacent to one of Springfield’s many lakes, close to the entry point of the suburb. Located at the base of a steeply graded embankment, the centre’s design responded to the corner aspect of the site and the linear nature of the property.
